Did this recent Valentine’s Day get you and your lover in the mood to just up and elope? You wouldn’t be the only ones. In fact, according to an American Express report, nearly six million U.S. couples get engaged on Valentine’s Day—much better than the typical gift of a box of chocolates, no? Now that you’re officially sealing the deal, it can be tempting to jump into the seemingly endless abyss that is wedding planning. But before you take the big plunge:

DESTINATION WEDDING CHECKLIST
All the details you need for the perfect destination wedding.
Inform Your Loved Ones
Okay, so now it’s starting to sink in and your heart beat is going back to normal. Sounds like you’re ready to share the news with everyone you know! While a simple call or text might be appropriate most of the time, you might want to rethink how you decide to make an announcement such as this. If possible, tell your loved ones in person. But, of course, if you happen to be away at the time, then a call is completely permissible!
Host an Engagement Party
If you have the patience, and aren’t too far away from those that will be included on your wedding day guest list, then you might want to make the big reveal during an engagement party. Just keep in mind that these events are typically disguised as something more casual, such as a weekend family get together, or a holiday party. You’ll also want to make sure that everyone invited to your engagement party will also be invited to your wedding, just to avoid any potential awkwardness.
Create a Wedding Budget
Weddings are expensive events, and as breathtaking as your new engagement ring is, it probably didn’t help your financial situation. You’re going to want to have every tool at your disposal. A wedding checklist featuring a calendar of responsibilities, an online spreadsheet where you can log estimated and actual expenses, and a mobile banking app capable of growing your savings automatically will be powerful assets when it comes time to set your budget. Just be sure to talk to your fiancé about your spending priorities and financial goals to make sure they’re in alignment.
Visualize Your Wedding Day
With your wedding budget worked out, you should be able to get an idea of what your wedding day will, or could look like. Whether you’ve been dreaming about a fairytale-like traditional wedding, complete with a cake-cutting ceremony and all, or you’d like to escape to the furthest tropical paradise, your budget may have some say in the matter. Sit down with your fiancé and discuss the pros and cons of each wedding day option. Although it’s ultimately your decision, it may be worth getting some input from your family and members of the wedding party. After all, they will have to make the journey to your wedding destination.
We’re on hand and ready to help answer your questions and discuss your wedding day ideas.
